Before we purchase more technology, we need to ask these questions: Why do we want it? How will we support it? What outcomes do we seek?

Besides more money, these students felt schools could share resources more, as long as the students took care of them. Secondly, I was able to visit a junior high school and conduct a tape-recorded interview with a group of seventh-, eighth-, and ninth-graders. From this session, I was able to discern common points. Unanimously, the students felt that the school library in the future had to be “high-tech”—technology in the name of computers needed to be accessible in the school library.

All agreed that libraries needed to transform from being collectors and disseminators to being information creators.
